New England Region USY
New England Region USY (NERUSY) was established in 1952 and has continued to grow ever since. We are part of the New England Region United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and of the national United Synagogue Youth organization.
NERUSY encompasses chapters from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Currently, NERUSY has 25 chapters and over 1,600 members, and we are proud to be one of the largest regions of USY! NERUSY includes a Kadima program for 5th and 6th graders, Junior USY for 7th and 8th graders, and Senior USY for 9th through 12th graders.
NERUSY offers teens the opportunity to immerse themselves in various Jewish and social activities while forming friendships that will last a lifetime. Regional events include:
- Conventions
- Week-long Summer Encampment
- Dances
- Fall Boat Cruise
- Leadership Retreats
- Grade Activities
In addition, NERUSY offers a girls' volleyball league and a boys' basketball league. At NERUSY events, teens will surely be caught up in the ruach (spirit) as they meet new friends from all over New England.
Chapters
The backbone of NERUSY is our chapters. Our 25 synagogue-based NERUSY chapters run fantastic programs for their Kadimaniks, Junior, and Senior USYers. Many of our chapters have also been awarded the prestigious title of International Chapter of the Year.
Chapter events vary from year to year, but some popular events include: Cosmic bowling, Teen Shabbat, Apple picking, Movie nights, Sukkah hops, Pizza in the Hut, Ice skating, Nursing home visits, Snow tubing, Family Shabbat dinners, Regressive meals, Super Bowl parties, Game nights, Sporting events, Lock-ins, and Much, much more.
To become a USY member, please contact your local chapter or Joyce Juda, NERUSY Director, at 617-964-8210 / joyce@nerusy.org.

Inter-Chapter Events
Throughout the year, several chapters may get together to run a variety of events. Inter-chapter events are run by the chapters, not the region.
International USY
NERUSY is fortunate to be part of a larger organization of United Synagogue Youth. USY offers unique and unparalleled experiences for our teens. Each year, there is an International Convention held during the December break for all 17 USY regions! This week of learning and fun is hosted in a different region each year. International Convention (IC) has taken place in Orlando, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Boston!
USY also offers wonderful summer programs, such as USY on Wheels; Mission Mitzvah; Summer in the City; and USY Pilgrimage groups to Israel, Poland/Israel, Eastern Europe/Israel, Spain/Israel, and Etgar/Outdoor Adventure. In addition, USY offers a year in Israel called Nativ, a gap-year program for all incoming college freshmen. More information on all International USY programs can be found at www.usy.org.
